In the remote village of Shankar Madhabpur, nestled in Char Rajibpur Upazila of Kurigram, resides Jamela Khatun, an elderly lady burdened with the weight of age and the sorrows of her past. Having lost her husband and family, she had almost given up hope. But on this blessed occasion of Ramadan and Eid, her tears turned into tears of joy as Rakibul Islam, representing the benevolent organization ‘WIDE ANGLE Foundation,’ arrived at her doorstep with an assortment of essential food items and much-needed cash assistance.

Zahir Uddin, a resident of Dakshin Para in the same village, struggled to make ends meet as a daily wage earner. Repeated river erosion had left him destitute, and his elder son’s unfortunate accident only added to their financial burdens. Grappling with debts incurred from medical expenses, this helpless family received a lifeline in the form of food supplies and financial aid from the foundation. Their relief was palpable, knowing they had support during these trying times.

Yesterday, on Friday, May 29, 2022, the voluntary organization ‘WIDE ANGLE Foundation’ embarked on a mission to distribute food items and cash assistance to hundreds of impoverished and vulnerable families residing in the isolated areas of Char Rajibpur Upazila, severed by the mighty Brahmaputra River.

The food items distributed by the foundation encompassed essentials such as rice, lentils, salt, potatoes, vermicelli, flaky pastries, powdered milk, sugar, chickpeas, oil, and soap.

Abdus Salam, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the challenges they faced during the fasting month. With rising prices and limited income, it was difficult for them to manage their expenses. Receiving these gifts before Eid brought immense relief and joy to their hearts. He prayed for blessings upon everyone associated with the organization for their generous contributions.

Throughout the day, dedicated volunteers from ‘WIDE ANGLE Foundation’ tirelessly distributed these gifts and monetary aid to numerous underprivileged individuals, including the disabled, widows, beggars, daily wage laborers, and domestic workers residing in the Brahmaputra region. The founder and CEO of the organization, Md. Humayun Kabir, personally oversaw and supervised the distribution process.

Mr. Kabir emphasized the importance of standing together in times of crisis, stating, “If we do not support those in danger, humanity itself will wither away. The people of Char endure hardships year-round, with their homes being uprooted annually due to relentless river erosion. Many among them are fasting without proper sustenance. Through this modest gesture, we aimed to bring a ray of hope into their lives.”

He further added, “Due to the escalating prices, many people struggle to afford meals during Ramadan. Additionally, the financial strain of celebrating Eid becomes insurmountable for them. Hence, we strive to share the joy of Eid by presenting these humble Eid gifts.”

The relief distribution program by the WIDE ANGLE Foundation has not only provided immediate assistance but has also renewed faith and restored hope among the flood-affected communities in Char Rajibpur. With their unwavering commitment to serving humanity, the foundation continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those most in need.

Together, let’s stand in solidarity with those facing adversity and foster a society where no one is left behind.
